EOSC era5-grids, edition 1.0

The Science Project (SP) Climate Neutral and Smart Cities is a Horizon 2020 funded Science Project under EOSC Future Task 6.3. The Science Project aims to combine environmental data with data on people's attitudes and behaviors for social, political, and scientific analysis. Scientists from the Social Science and Humanities Open Science Cloud (SSHOC) and ENVRI clusters are collaborating to produce new outputs, including indicators for environmental indices and computational methods. European Social Survey data are being integrated with environmental variables in a selection of major European city regions.

The data used for the project come from recognized and open sources within the environmental and social sciences: The European Social Survey (ESS), the European Environmental Agency (EEA) and the ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) from the Copernicus program. The ESS was the starting point for the project, whereas EEA and ERA5 were chosen as data sources due to their recognition and uptake.

Data and their related metadata are published in the ESS Data Portal, while other project's deliverables can be easily explored through materials and links available through the ESS Labs pages. Among others, the application provides access to a prototype tool, facilitating cross-domain data analysis and provenance tracking. This prototype can serve as an example for other, similar cross-domain research projects.
