National access point for road and transport data

Transportportal.no

Transportportal.no is the national access point for road and transport data in Norway. The portal was created to provide access to all road, transport and mobility data from a single place.

The portal contains data on, among other things, roads, road status, incidents, travel times, public transport routes, timetables, information, alerts and mobility services such as city bikes. This data can be used to build your own services. You can also combine data from different datasets to create new, forward-looking and high-quality mobility services aimed at all road users.

In the portal you can search for datasets in both Norwegian and English and get enough information about a dataset to understand what it covers. The datasets are to be available in standardised and specified data formats in line with the ITS Directive and the regulations.

The portal contains only metadata about the datasets. The data sources are held by each individual data owner, and the metadata contains links to these. By following the link to a dataset, you will find further information about the dataset and various aspects related to downloading, use of the data, any restrictions regarding use/reuse, payment and the like.

Datasets described in the portal should preferably be free to use, but data owners are permitted to charge a fee for certain types of data. Both public and private organisations are expected to contribute datasets to the portal, and these may be organisations that are road owners, that operate transport and mobility services, or that provide traffic information. In the portal's data catalogue you will find descriptions of, and links to, datasets and services about road status, incidents, travel times, public transport, timetables and much more.

All the datasets are open - feel free to use them to develop your own services.

Everyone in Norway who has datasets or offers services related to road traffic, public transport and mobility services can and should make information about these openly available in this portal; see the more detailed description of how to add data.

Every country in Europe is to have such an access point in order to achieve coherent information services for transport - in line with the EU's ITS Directive.

The portal mainly contains datasets and services covered by the ITS Directive's regulations, for example:

  • Traffic information about incidents, travel times, weather and road conditions
  • Static data about the road network
  • Route and real-time information about public transport
  • Stop place register for public transport
  • Data on traffic on the road network
  • Information about parking areas
  • Data on "new forms of mobility" such as city bikes, e-scooters, etc.
